‘Tis the season for Giving

This is how Summit Salon Academy gives back to our community during the holidays.

Nourish Pierce County

During the month of November, Summit Salon Academy in Tacoma will be hosting a food drive to benefit Nourish Pierce County. Nourish operates 21 food bank distribution sites throughout Pierce County. The Academy will be collecting donations of canned food, baby food and infant formula, and non-food items such as diapers, toiletries, laundry detergent, and some personal care items.

Last year, Nourish distributed more than 1 million pounds of food for a total of 4 million nourishing meals.  Their efforts reached 61,000 people, a total of 7% of Pierce County struggling with food insecurity.

We are glad that we can play a part in helping feed our local community. Last year our food drive contributed almost 400 lbs of food. We hope to exceed that this year!

If you are visiting the Academy, please consider helping out by bringing a non- perishable food item with you to donate.

Giving Tree

The holidays represent family, cheer and togetherness. For many though it can be a difficult time of year. Financial stress for a parent can mean that it is difficult to buy presents for children.

To help ease this burden, each year we have chosen a few families in need to adopt.  We put up a “Giving Tree” in the Academy and decorate it with tags that represent the wish list of each member of the family. Then our Academy “elves” (students/staff) get to work! Those participating pick a tag and have fun buying and wrapping a present that fits the wish list item on the tag.

The presents are delivered to the family by a volunteer so it’s all anonymous. While we aren’t there to see the joy on the faces as presents are unwrapped, we get that wonderful feeling knowing we have made the holidays less stressful for a parent and exciting for their children. It’s something we look forward to every year!

We are grateful to be a part of the Tacoma/Pierce County community. We wish everyone a happy, healthy Holiday Season!
