Social Promoter of the Month: Stephanie Alvarez

This month we are recognizing Stephanie Alvarez as our Social Promoter of the Month! Stephanie has always been interested in the science behind hair and the opportunity beauty creates. She has been with Summit Salon for about a year, and we’re excited to see her graduate this month! Congratulations, Stephanie! 

All About Stephanie 

Outside of her time at Summit, Stephanie loves spending time with family, friends, and her cute pets! She spent 12 years as a server before enrolling with us, and we are blessed to have her here! Her favorite part of cosmetology is color correction and changing up her client’s look simply by changing a color. 

When COVID hit, Stephanie realized she might need a change in career. She says her husband was the one to encourage her to go back to school and enter the world of cosmetology. Stephanie couldn’t get the idea of beauty out of her head, and she was eventually led to enroll at Summit Salon. We couldn’t be happier to have you with us, Stephanie!

The Importance of Social Media 

Social media includes a wide range of platforms that can strengthen a cosmetologist’s clientele and create new inspiration among other professionals. Stephanie believes, 

“Social media is a big influence in the beauty industry for potential clients and for stylists. For a stylist it is pretty much your online portfolio and for clients it can be inspo pics for what they want or they may be seeking a stylist and love your work.”

Before starting her beauty journey, Stephanie used different forms of social media–from Xanga to TikTok. Now she likes to promote her projects and various client stylings on social media. She says that before beauty, she was pretty private on social media, but now she likes seeing her work getting noticed by salons, and hyping up her fellow students. Way to go, Stephanie!

Her advice to students just learning the ropes of social media is to take pictures, and post as much as you can! Even if the photos don’t turn out, you can see your progress! You can check out Stephanie’s work on Instagram: @summit.steph. 

Why Summit Salon Academy?

Stephanie wasn’t a stranger to Summit Salon Academy, at least not completely. She had two friends previously attend Summit and knew what our school can offer. Stephanie says she loves that we offer Brazilian Blowout Certification and that our program is 1800 hours “so that you really get some extra experience and knowledge before going out into the salon world.” These are definitely great reasons to enroll at Summit Salon!

Stephanie says, 

“My favorite thing about Summit is the relationships I have built…with educators, staff and students. I was very nervous about starting school. I was 29 years old and hadn’t stepped foot in a classroom for 11 years, but the educators and other students were so welcoming that I looked forward to going to school everyday.” 

And we look forward to seeing you each day, Stephanie!

Stephanie’s Advice for Future Beauty Students

Stephanies wants future students to know that it’s okay to ask questions. She says, “Even if you think some may be dumb, they aren’t. Someone else might be thinking the same thing but too shy or nervous to ask. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. We are all one big family and willing to help each other.” We couldn’t agree more, Stephanie!

She also knows that there isn’t just one way to do something. There are multiple ways to achieve the same goal, so if one way doesn’t work she knows she can try a different way. “We can all have the same goal,” Stephanie says, “but don’t need to take the same steps or path to achieve it.” Great advice, Stephanie!
