We asked student Stylist Skye to show us how to do a super quick and easy hairstyle. She did not disappoint with this sassy updo tutorial that anyone can do! All told, this look took about twenty minutes and would be great for date night! Follow these steps to get this look!
You will need:
- Comb or back combing brush.
- Three elastics.
- Bobby pins
- Redken Powder Grip 03
- Redken Braid Aid 03
- Redken Quick Dry 18
- Redken Shine Flash 02
Step 1: Start with clean and dry hair. Using Redken Powder Grip 03 to add texture, backcomb hair at the crown. It is okay to go as big as you want.
Step 2: Part the hair on the side. Where to place the part is up to you!
Step 3: Apply a small amount of Redken Braid Aid 03 and start a french braid on one side of the head. Keep braiding until you reach the back of the head. Secure with an elastic.
Step 4: Repeat on the other side of the head. Keep in mind that the overall look will be a bit messy and casual. Keep the braids as symmetrical as you can, but don’t stress if they are slightly different sizes.
Step 5: Use a bobby pin to secure the two braids together at the crown on the back of the head.
Step 6: Collect all of the hair (including the ends of the braids together in a low pony tail. Secure with an elastic.
Step 7: Use your index fingers to separate the pony tail right above the elastic.
Step 8: Pull the end of the pony tail through the space you have created and then gently pull on the ends to tighten.
Depending on the texture of your hair, you may want to use a little more Powder Grip to keep it from sliding at this stage.
Step 9: Repeat step 8, but do not pull it tight. You will have created a loose knot or bun.
Step 10: Secure the ends of the hair under the knot with bobby pins.
Step 11: Protect your masterpiece with Redken Quick Dry 18. For added shine, lightly spray Redken Shine Flash 01 all over the head!
Congratulations! You just rocked that updo!
Looks awesome! Thank you to Skye and her lovely model, Jess!
